Dion Brake has called Calgary, Alberta home since 1997. He is a creative individual focused on enhancing environments with interesting pieces. His first creations were inspired by Australian aboriginal art which depicted the natural environment from an aerial view, something he has always been fond of since his Geography studies at the University of Calgary. Dion travelled extensively after finishing his studies and began to take notice of modern architecture. The modern landscapes not common in Alberta have helped to evolve his work into what you see today.
His latest creations concentrate on opposites. The white lustre finishes of his work offer ther ideal backdrop to showcase a variety of materials from both the generated world and the natural world. The feature becomes the subject of attention, colours become more vivid and the mundane becomes progressive.
Dion continuous to explore the world of modern furniture by pairing old world techiniques for new world settings. Because of his pieces are 100% unique he is very open about his build process which you can watch unfold by following on Instagram and Twitter.
The Barbo Lamp was selected as one of five finalist in the 2013 edition of Avenue Magazines Design Competition.
